announcing baby - it's a girl!

I have been so thankful that I have been able to use my creative juices on making something special for friends and family. I always seem to be working on some kind of photo card these days, which keeps me busy, but I love it! Currently I am working on my son's 1st birthday invitation. I also have a few other projects I look forward to sharing in the future!

In the meantime...

Here are a few baby girl announcements I have done this past year, adding to the previous set of baby girl announcements I have already shared.

For more samples of baby announcements, see them here.

Because I am working on growing my business, I am creating unique custom made designs for each individual photo card. You are always welcome to choose from the designs I have already created, but I am more than willing to create something special just for YOUR occasion! Please see side bar for my contact information if you have any questions regarding the purchase of photo cards.

baby shower favor idea

A couple of days ago, I helped host a baby shower for a very good friend of mine who was celebrating the birth of her third child. My other friend whose house we were having the shower at had printed some wallet size photos of the sweet baby with the intentions of using them for the shower invite. When that didn't work out, I decided to try and do something with them as shower favors for the attending guests.

I backed the wallet size photo with white paper and then onto a colored cardstock. I then took some coordinating ribbon and thread it through two punched holes.

On the back
, I attached a poem that I adapted to fit the baby's name, including his birthdate at the bottom.
Each guest took home this special little favor to hang on their refrigerator.

baby shower-seeing stars

I love baby showers! I have been a part of the planning process in my fair share of celebrating the arrival of little ones (first it was wedding showers, now it's babies). I am a big fan of throwing a party! Last summer, I was able to help out with a shower that we had for my sister-in-law. Her sister, but also my good friend, and I were the party planners and together we made a great team. She made all of the food (thank, goodness! that's not always "my thing") and I was in charge of the invites, games, and decor. Score! My favorite part of the party! I thought it would be fun to show off a few pictures of the decorations from that shower. Since I love themes, I investigated a bit and found out that the crib bedding in the nursery was going to be stars with blues, yellows, and greens, I thought it would be fun to go with that.

favors we passed out to the guests-
my friend made the cookies, and I made the tags

we even had stars down to the shapes of the cheese-brilliant idea by my friend
I used silver star confetti and then punched out other stars in coordinating colors...check out the colors of the Hershey Kisses...not bad, huh?

Over the years, I wish that I had taken many more pictures of the simple things at the showers I have helped with, like party favors, invitations, decorations, and more. Not only so I could share them with you, but so I could duplicate it easily if I needed to. But, don't worry, I think if I browsed through my files, I could find some fun things to share that I did take pictures of. I might even try to put together the shower games I have created or used.

announcing baby- it's a boy!

Here are a handful of baby boy photo card announcements that I have created for friends and family. Typically, I ask for 1-2 pictures and then I create one of a kind announcements that suits their taste and liking. Since designing photo cards is still a new venture for me, I make everything starting from a blank canvas and just see where my creativity might take me.

This is my sweet nephew who just turned one year old.

**Note: If you haven't seen the first set of baby announcements I've shared, check them out here or holiday greeting photo cards here.

announcing baby-part 1

My favorite photo cards to create are baby announcements. I just love how sweet the pictures are and how I get to create this beautiful way for the proud parents to show off their newest member of the family. Here are a handful of samples I created for one family to choose from to announce the birth of their baby girl.

*You can try clicking on each picture for an enlarged view.

These last four were the same design with just different color combinations. I love playing with the different colors!

Christmas in July

I have always enjoyed sending some sort of holiday greeting to family and friends for Christmas. Over the last couple of years in working with photo cards, I have designed a handful of cards for Christmastime, a couple for our family, but a few cards & designs I have created for a friend. It gives me great joy to create something extra special and unique for family and friends to receive during the holiday season! Here are a few samples of things I have done over the last 2 Christmas seasons. There are so many more ideas to put down on paper (er, I mean computer), so I hope to share those creations in the future and maybe for others who would like a fun and unique way to say Merry Christmas for Christmas 2008!

photo card frenzy

My most recent creative endeavor (among other things I still do just for fun) has been to create photo cards on the computer. I began this new creative discovery while I was pregnant with my first child. I was interested in finding a way I could share with my family and friends the birth of my little girl and came across the fun and creative (not to mention beautiful) idea of photo card announcements. After showing my husband all of the fun ideas that I found to create the announcement, he promptly and confidently said, "I could do that" (who knew?). Together, we created our daughter's birth announcement in April 2006. While looking over my husband's shoulder, I "told" him exactly what I envisioned it to look like and he worked his magic touch on the computer (honestly, I was a little overwhelmed by the amount of program knowledge needed to create such a thing and back then I was somewhat afraid of learning the "ins and outs" of computer "stuff").

Here is that finished product...the first one of many and I have only gained more experience and knowledge about creating these cards, not to mention I've had a whole lot of fun along the way!

To be fair to my second child, I thought I would show you the announcement for our sweet baby boy born September 2007. This one I did by myself!

Now, instead of my husband getting to have all the fun, I took over the keyboard, found the confidence (and the patience to teach myself that aforementioned dreaded computer "stuff") and put my skills to the test. Thanks to my family and friends (and word of mouth), I have created birth announcements, Christmas cards, birthday invitations, and a few other special holidays and events along the way. I see this being my best "creative adventure" yet! (And maybe even business...dare I say that?) I can't wait to show you what I have created so far.

creativity

I love being creative! Whether it's making a card, creating a scrapbook page, wrapping a gift, organizing a room, or designing a photo card, I enjoy the process! I am a perfectionist by nature. It's something that has always been with me since I was born. Most of the time being a perfectionist is a good thing because I enjoy creating something that is completed to the best of my ability and skill, and in turn LOVING the end product. But sometimes being a perfectionist is not a good thing, particularly when way too much extra time, sweat, and tears are spent into trying to complete the project to the best of my ability and skill...and well, to make it perfect (right now I'm having flashbacks of late nights in college and my teaching days). It makes me feel good to create something for somebody (but also for myself).

God has blessed me with the gift of creativity. I want to share that blessing with others. However, I don't dare claim that I am gifted in all areas of creativity. I don't know how to sew, knit, quilt, or crochet. I don't plan on learning anytime soon. I will choose to stick to the things I know and let others (like my talented seamstress mother) enjoy the pleasures of the fabric and yarn world. If there's every anything I need sewn, my mom is the first person I call. My poor husband...I even claim that I can't sew on a button (well, maybe that's more of an excuse).

I hope you can be inspired by some of the things I have created in the past, present, and hopefully many things to come in the future. I've had a lot of visions for starting my own business in many ways (which you will soon read about), but right now, with 2 kids under 3 years, I can't go as deep into these visions as I would like to, but my hope is that one day I will!

what's in a name?

HB Creative Design simply stands for...

Heidi Boos Creative Design.

I tried to find a name that would encompass all of the creative things I like to be a part of...from greeting cards to gift wrapping to organizing to photo cards to scrapbooking these are all of the "creative designs" that I enjoy.
