Christmas countdown

Only 2 more days to Christmas!! This month has felt like it's gone by in such a rush.

My husband and I were able to go on a week long vacation for our 5-year anniversary.

And it has snowed and snowed and snowed here in Portland, Oregon unlike anything that has been seen for almost 40 years!

These two things have made it feel not quite like a "normal" Christmas season.

But, despite the craziness, I was able to enjoy designing a few more Christmas photo cards.

These next 3 designs were for a very dear friend who has given me the opportunity to design last year's Christmas card and her son's baby announcement. She ended up choosing the first one for this year's Christmas card.

The same dear friend from above shared my love for design to her mom and this will be the second year I have designed her family's Christmas card. I love seeing how much the children grow each year and how big the family keeps getting.
This is our Christmas card. I really wanted a collage theme this year, since we had so many great pictures to choose from thanks to my friend Annie who photographed our family.

a little tweek here, a little tweek there

Here is an example of how I can take a pre-designed card and tweek it to make it look more complete with the picture that you might give me.

I created this particular card last Christmas as a set of designs for a friend to choose from. This isn't the one she chose, but I kept it in my pre-design gallery.


A gal in my MOPS group chose this particular design for her Christmas card this year, but I was able to give it a few extra unique changes to make it work for her family card, such as making subtle changes to the font, color, wording, picture size, and using a different snowflake. This card was printed off 4x6 in size with a deep cranberry colored matting (1/2-inch all around) to make it a 5x7. Sometimes the matting gives it that special unique look.

So, if you ever see something in my pre-design gallery (Christmas cards or other special events), know that I can try to make the changes necessary to make it fit your style.

However, for an additional $10 custom design fee, I can also create something that is unique just for you!

I'm in the midst of trying to create a few new Christmas cards...

Here is one that I just completed, but it's not actually our Christmas card, I just used our family picture and names. I'm keeping our family Christmas card a surprise until I get them sent out in the mail.


**Important information: If you are interested in ordering Christmas cards, I need to have your information, picture, and design choice by no later than Tuesday, December 2nd in order for me to get them to you before I leave on Saturday, December 6th. I will be gone for one week and will not be returning until December 13th. My good friend, Kim, "hired" me to design and create some thank you for the baby gift cards for another friend who just had a baby. This was her second baby, so she wanted a unique and special gift to give to her. I designed a photo card and then backed it with a red cardstock and then attached them to a folded card and bundled up a set of 12.


I also had the pleasure of designing this little man's baby announcement, which I look forward to sharing soon!

holiday cards (with more to come!)

Whew! What a busy weekend! So much to prepare for! One of the things being our local MOPS group just held our 1st Annual Craft Fair & Bazaar this morning. We had 12 tables set up for 40 women to browse through and do a little early Christmas shopping. I was the coordinator of the event and I think our first one ran smoothly. Hooray! I hope to open it up to other Christmas shoppers outside of MOPS next year. I set up a table to advertise my HB Creative Design photo card business, and so I look forward to seeing what comes of that. I think I have a few women who were interested in holiday cards.

And now I'm moving on to the next project (or should I say projects?)!

I wanted to give you a sampling of the holiday cards I have created for my friend Annie, an amazing photographer. The pictures displayed on each of these cards were taken by her.



I know this is a busy time of year, but I hope to design a few more in the coming week to have as other options for potential customers looking for photo cards. Over the weekend, we finally determined my photo card pricing that will be for the coming holiday season (see left sidebar). I'm slowly growing my business, so I'm sure as the work load grows, I will probably have to adjust my pricing to compensate for that.

keeping busy...and loving it!

This last week I was a little busy creating a couple of photo cards. Here are some fun, new designs for special occasions.

Here is my in-laws' 35th wedding anniversary party invitation...
**This is a 4x6 card with silver matting (thanks to the suggestion of my sister-in-law, Kristen). The colors turned out amazing and look great together!


And a baby shower invite for a friend's sister...
**This is a 4x6 card with white backing. I love the brown and blue together.

I have a baby announcement that I can't wait to share, but it's not quite finished yet. It's super cute!

The greatest thing about all of this creating and keeping busy is that I don't find any of it a burden. I love it too much for it to ever be a chore!

happy birthday papa!

My dad's 60th birthday is today!! He's definitely not one to shout it out that it's his birthday, but I'm sure he will appreciate the photo card I made him from the grandkids that he will receive in the mail...hopefully today. He loves his grandbabies that's for sure!! Can't wait for him and my mom to come "home" for the holidays!

My son's first birthday was last Sunday. We celebrated with a monkey birthday party, all decked out in bananas! To look back over the year, I put together a month by month photo collage of my sweet boy. Where did the time go?

I have some great friends who are such a support to me in the developing of my photo card business and I appreciate their willingness to spread the word of HB Creative Design. Because of this, I recently had the pleasure of creating a baby announcement to welcome a sweet baby girl to a family with two very charming brothers.

time to monkey around!

Here is the newest photo card birthday invitation I have created. It is for my son's FIRST birthday at the end of this month. The theme will be monkeys because, these days, that's exactly what he is! Climbing into things (places I never thought he would fit), up things, over things and if I let him, he may just try to swing from the light fixtures. I can't wait to share all of the fun ideas I have swarming around in my head to go along with a monkey birthday extravaganza! Future posts will follow...

I have been so thankful that I have been able to use my creative juices on making something special for friends and family. I always seem to be working on some kind of photo card these days, which keeps me busy, but I love it! Currently I am working on my son's 1st birthday invitation. I also have a few other projects I look forward to sharing in the future!

baby shower favor idea

A couple of days ago, I helped host a baby shower for a very good friend of mine who was celebrating the birth of her third child. My other friend whose house we were having the shower at had printed some wallet size photos of the sweet baby with the intentions of using them for the shower invite. When that didn't work out, I decided to try and do something with them as shower favors for the attending guests.

I backed the wallet size photo with white paper and then onto a colored cardstock. I then took some coordinating ribbon and thread it through two punched holes.

On the back, I attached a poem that I adapted to fit the baby's name, including his birthdate at the bottom.
Each guest took home this special little favor to hang on their refrigerator.

I love baby showers! I have been a part of the planning process in my fair share of celebrating the arrival of little ones (first it was wedding showers, now it's babies). I am a big fan of throwing a party! Last summer, I was able to help out with a shower that we had for my sister-in-law. Her sister, but also my good friend, and I were the party planners and together we made a great team. She made all of the food (thank, goodness! that's not always "my thing") and I was in charge of the invites, games, and decor. Score! My favorite part of the party! I thought it would be fun to show off a few pictures of the decorations from that shower. Since I love themes, I investigated a bit and found out that the crib bedding in the nursery was going to be stars with blues, yellows, and greens, I thought it would be fun to go with that.

I used silver star confetti and then punched out other stars in coordinating colors...check out the colors of the Hershey Kisses...not bad, huh?

Over the years, I wish that I had taken many more pictures of the simple things at the showers I have helped with, like party favors, invitations, decorations, and more. Not only so I could share them with you, but so I could duplicate it easily if I needed to. But, don't worry, I think if I browsed through my files, I could find some fun things to share that I did take pictures of. I might even try to put together the shower games I have created or used.

announcing baby- it's a boy!

Here are a handful of baby boy photo card announcements that I have created for friends and family. Typically, I ask for 1-2 pictures and then I create one of a kind announcements that suits their taste and liking. Since designing photo cards is still a new venture for me, I make everything starting from a blank canvas and just see where my creativity might take me.

This is my sweet nephew who just turned one year old.

My favorite photo cards to create are baby announcements. I just love how sweet the pictures are and how I get to create this beautiful way for the proud parents to show off their newest member of the family. Here are a handful of samples I created for one family to choose from to announce the birth of their baby girl.
